First Away Loss In Three Months Suffered At The Shay

Matt Jansen’s Magpies suffered their first away defeat in more than three months, since the FA Cup exit at Spennymoor on October 1st, with tonight’s loss at The Shay.

The home side took the lead from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after Ritchie Branagan brought down striker Adam Morgan on the edge of the 6-yard box, though there were suggestions of a possible offside and minimal contact from the keeper to tried to avoid the contact.  Matty Kosylo converted from the spot to put the hosts ahead.

Richard Peniket doubled Halifax’s lead on 56 minutes, heading in a Kosylo free-kick, which was one of numerous free-kicks awarded to both sides by the official.

Chorley pulled a goal back through a Dale Whitham header on 68 minutes, but the lack of striking options in the absence of the injured Jason Walker and the departed Sefton Gonzales is certainly an issue and despite a late drive from substitute Will Beesley the score remained unchanged at the final whistle.
