GOALKEEPER URWIN SIGNS FOR THE MAGPIES

Chorley FC are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Matt Urwin. Urwin becomes Matt Jansen’s latest loan recruit as the squad takes shape for the forthcoming season, which starts tomorrow at Kidderminster Harriers writes Josh Vosper.

The 23-year-old Blackpool-born shot stopper started his playing career in the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers before joining Bradford City in August 2014. He made many appearances for the Bantams before being released and then joined rivals AFC Fylde. He joined Fleetwood Town on a permanent basis last season and before switching to National League North side AFC Telford United on loan after Christmas.

Talking about the deal, Urwin said: “I’m excited to get going and work with the lads, looking forward to playing for the club and hopefully have a successful season. I would like to thank Matt and Jamie for giving me the chance and for their words about Chorley FC which made it easier to sign on the dotted line.” He added: “I’ve been at a few clubs but this is a special place and you can feel that within the dressing room. Hopefully we’ll go one better this time and seal promotion to the National League.”

Manager Matt Jansen said: “We are delighted to have Matt join the club on a season long loan from Fleetwood Town. He has bags of experience and his distribution is second to none. During pre-season I’ve been impressed with his performances - especially from his short and long passes, plus penalty save against Wrexham. As a club we are always looking to strengthen within the squad and he will definitely help in our quest for promotion.”

He added: “He’s a massive signing for the club and I’m sure the supporters will get behind him like they have done with all our keepers in the past. Looking ahead, tomorrow we start the new campaign at Kidderminster Harriers. Towards the back end of last year our away support was incredible. We’d like to see that replicated tomorrow, as our fans will play a massive part in our success throughout the 2017-18 season.”
