BREAKING NEWS | Hughes Joins the Magpies

Chorley FC have today completed the signing of highly sought after striker Matty Hughes. The 25-year-old was a free agent after leaving National League side AFC Fylde. Hughes was being tracked by clubs at a higher level but has opted for a switch to The Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium.

The forward began his career as a trainee with Everton before a prolific two year spell with Golbourne Sports and Skelmersdale Town saw Fleetwood Town swoop to sign him. During his time at Highbury he was loaned to Chester FC and became a fans favourite during two spells. For the past two seasons he has been a first team regular with the Coasters.

Manager Matt Jansen is delighted to bring a player to the club who has been on his wish list. He said: “I’m really happy to see Matty join the club and he’s someone we’ve targeted for a while now. He’s sharp, bright and will be a good addition to the dressing room. Looking ahead he’s another attacking option, which we can use to our advantage throughout the season.”

He added: “That’s going to be massive and he’s already proven himself at non-league level with AFC Fylde. Obviously, we don’t just sign players for the sake of it and he’s definitely someone who will improve us going forward as we strive for success in the National League North yet again.”
