EMIRATES FA CUP | Haughton Hits the Headlines

The Magpies cruised into the final qualifying round of this season’s FA Cup on Saturday with a 1-0 win at ninth division side Ashton Athletic, courtesy of Nick Haughton’s fabulous solo effort. The match, which was broadcast live on the BBC via the red button and online, was one which the on-loan Fleetwood man excelled in, and his performance and deserved goal have gained national acclaim over social media.

Various media outlets ranging from the official BBC Sport website to Bangladesh News 24 have brought national attention to not only Haughton himself, but to the Magpies FA Cup progress.
Ex England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who was part of the commentary team for Saturday’s match hailed Haughton’s strike live on air and praised the 23-year-old’s overall game throughout the match.
Haughton, who ran over to his dad to celebrate immediately after scoring the decisive goal, has thoroughly impressed since joining the Magpies on a season long loan from League 1 side Fleetwood Town at the end of August, scoring twice and assisting over half a dozen times.
The draw for the fourth and final qualifying round is on Monday at 1pm, with National League sides entering the draw at this stage of the competition. Manager Matt Jansen and club captain Andy Teague are both hoping for a home draw, having beaten both Ashton Athletic and Stalybridge Celtc away from home already to get to this stage of the competition, with all eyes on the possibility of Chorley reaching the first round proper for the first time in nearly 20 years.
