PREVIEW | Spennymoor Town

The Magpies travel to County Durham on Saturday to take on fellow promotion hopefuls Spennymoor Town (kick off 3pm). The Moors are enjoying an impressive start to their maiden campaign in National League North sitting one place (5th) and one point (25) ahead of Matt Jansen’s men, having played a game more.

Last season’s Northern Premier League Premier Division play-off winners have made a steady rise through the pyramid since 2005’s merger between Spennymoor United and Evenwood Town setup the current incarnation. Four promotions have followed, with Jason Ainsley’s side firmly in the play-off picture once again in their first attempt at tier six football.

Last meeting: The teams played each other in last season’s FA Cup third qualifying round, with Spennymoor taking the spoils 1-0 on the back of a Glen Taylor strike.

League records: Chorley have an even 3-1-3 record away from Victory Park. Spennymoor are 3-2-2 at Brewery Field, with an average crowd of 916.

Top scorers: Nick Haughton leads the way for Chorley with eight in all competitions. The aforementioned Glen Taylor has eight league goals for Town.

Streak: Chorley are unbeaten in seven games and have collected nine wins from their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Crucial stats: Chorley have lost on their last three visits to the North East in the league. The Magpies last win in the region was a 2-0 FA Cup success over Dunston UTS in September 2016. Spennymoor have won once at home since August 15.
