LATEST NEWS | FA Cup Factfile provide a helping hand

The Emirates FA Cup is a competition steeped in history with the first final recorded in 1871/72 when Wanderers beat Royal Engineers 1-0. 145 years on and to keep a record of all of those matches is a task anyone would find challenging.

Phil Annets of the FA Cup Factfile has done just that however, researching and recording information all about the oldest cup competition on the planet. His precision for detail and eye for a good FA Cup story hasn’t gone unnoticed, with the likes of football writer Henry Winter and Sky Sports presenter Gary Taphouse just some of his 8,500 followers on Twitter.

Chorley FC and the FA Cup Factfile are working together this season, with Phil providing exclusive facts and stats from Chorley’s FA Cup history and general football statistics. “The FA Cup is a labour of love for me,” he said. “I’m a little bit of a completest and having been interested in the FA Cup all my life - this was something I felt I could do.”

“The whole idea of this is to provide statistics and facts about the FA Cup with as much as accuracy as possible. Not only that, but I tend to produce ranking performances when certain teams are drawn against each other, just to add more to the pot, so to speak.” Contrary to what many people believe, the FA Cup Factfile is run solely by Phil with hopes of making a commercial life out of it still in the pipeline.

“Around five years ago, my work life changed and I was left with more time on my hands so decided to press ahead with this. I’m currently working on a book and always get requests from clubs up and down the country for information for their match day programmes. I feel after a year of really pushing with this I can now speak with real authority about the FA Cup and clubs are starting to recognise that.”

Chorley FC’s commercial manager Josh Vosper said: “We’d like to thank Phil for all his hard work contributing to our souvenir match day programme against Fleetwood Town. We hope fans will enjoy his pages of stats and information regarding the most famous cup competition in the world."
