LATEST NEWS | Young fan raises money for charity

An amazing young Chorley supporter has raised nearly £700 in aid of a children’s charity. 12-year-old Caitlin Wakefield from Warrington set up a Just Giving page in October, with the aim to raise £100 for the Little Princess Trust, an organisation who provide wigs to children with cancer to help them cope when they lose their hair.

Young Caitlin decided she wanted to do something useful with her hair when she eventually got it cut, so decided to send it off to the Little Princess Trust after losing family members through cancer in the past. Ten days after setting up the Just Giving page, Caitlin had raised £687, nearly seven times her intended target. Caitlin’s mum Louise couldn’t believe how much they’d gone over their original aim of £100.

“It’s brilliant. The money raised has gone way over what we thought it would,” she said. “It’s especially amazing given how times are hard financially for most people at the minute, but that’s the power of social media.” Louise and her family, who have been coming to watch the Magpies for two years, explained how the idea came about.

“We took my son to his football match one afternoon, who funnily enough was taught by Jamie Vermiglio at school. Caitlin was talking to me about getting her hair cut and wanting to raise money for charity and one of the dad’s stood by the pitch just said he’d sponsor Caitlin. So it grew and grew from there and weeks later, she’d raised over £650. I’m so proud of her.”

A fantastic achievement Caitlin. Well done! If you’d like to donate visit: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jonathan-wakefield
