COMMUNITY | Manager Matt Jansen and players visit Derian House

Manager Matt Jansen and a number of players paid a special visit to Derian House Children’s Hospice on Thursday afternoon to help spread some festive cheer.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted by Mick Croskery, Community Fundraiser for the organisation, who leaded the manager, Andy Teague, Nick Haughton, Matt Urwin and Josh Vosper on a tour of the facility, meeting staff and youngsters along the way.

The squad handed out presents, selection boxes and cards to the children ahead of the holiday season. Croskery said: “We really appreciate Chorley FC coming down to support us with the kind gifts and merchandise. It’s amazing to show the club what we do and helps us raise the profile of Derian House. That’s pivotal going forward, working with the community and an organisation such as our local football team.”

Speaking following the visit, Matt Jansen said: “We really enjoyed coming down and it’s such an inspirational organisation. Meeting all the staff and children was wonderful, with it being such a happy place. It’s obviously local to us, which is so important and especially seeing all the work first hand. Obviously, we learn what people are going through and it makes us realise how fortunate we are and I’m sure we’ll do more in the future to help as much as we can.”

Derian House has an enviable reputation in setting exceptionally high standards in children’s hospice care. With a catchment area covering the whole of Lancashire and the South Lakes, it is currently supporting more than 300 families who have a child or young adult suffering from a life shortening condition, as well as providing bereavement support for a further 200 families.
