MATCH REPORT | Chorley 0-0 Kidderminster Harriers

The Magpies held firm on a cold evening at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium, recording a scoreless draw against the Vanarama National League North’s form team Kidderminster Harriers, writes Alex Birch.

The main talk point in an otherwise dull match was the fracas towards the end of the second half, when four red cards were dished out, three of which went to people not even on the field.

Team news

Matt Jansen made two changes from the side that lost to Harrogate on Saturday with Josh Wilson and Dale Whitham replacing injured duo Nick Haughton and Matty Hughes. John Eustace also made two changes as Liam Truslove and Joel Taylor made way for Lee Vaughan and Dan Bradley.

First half

The match failed to get going in the first 45 minutes, with both sides putting in plenty of effort for little reward. The home side’s best chances both fell to the returning Wilson who had a long- range volley blocked away for a corner. From the resulting Dale Whitham centre, Chorley’s number seven headed wide.

Kidderminster countered with two corners of their own. The first was headed over by leading scoring Joe Ironside, and a carbon copy late in the half ended in an identical outcome from Fraser Horsfall.

Second half

The plodding nature of the match continued after the break with very few opportunities created by either side. New signing Delial Brewster offered a glimpse of his quality, outpacing the Harriers’ backline before having a cross blocked.

Bradley and Ngwatala both shot horribly over for the visitors as the game looked likely to peter out. That was until an off the ball incident between Matt Challoner and Andre Brown, initially dealt with by the referee, spilled over onto the touchline.

The melee that followed included almost all players and staff, numerous bodies taking tumbles, and resulted in Challoner being sent off, along with assistant manager Jamie Vermiglio and Kiddy manager Eustace and unused sub Tyrone Williams.

The rest of the game was played out in a strange, subdued atmosphere, with a final score to match.
