The Magpies penultimate game of the season extended the current woeful run of form to just two points collected from a potential 21 as the clubs slide down the table continued with little more than a whimper.

The absence of Chris Amadi due to 'navigation' issues rang alarm bells in supporters minds as without the flamboyant striker, especially since the loss of Terry Fearns, Chorley have offered very little in attack, and tonight was not an exception to the rule.

Skelmersdale, search for a win to guarantee there place in the end of season play-off's should have been out of site by half time, but a combination of wayward shooting, good goalkeeping and solid defending at time kept the score doiwn to one-nil at the break, the goal coming through a Woolcottt effort that appeared to creep between Zac Hibbert out stretch arm and the post.

Both sides had goals ruled out for off-side, Chorley's coming when Stuart Howson found himself unmarked in front of goal following an Alex Porter free-kick.  The cause of the free-kick was the talkig point of the half as United had defender Michael Burke dismissed for a professional foul.

Despite finishing the half with a man disadvantage, United continued to look the side more likely to score.

Into the second half it took the introduction of young Danny Lloyd-McGoldrick to bring an attaching impetuous to the Chorley side, but the home side continued to dominate, scoring their second goal, again through Woolcott on 58 minutes.

Deep into injury time, Lee Shillito was adjudged to have lead with his arm when challenging for a header and was given a straight red, with Steve Burke following him down the tunnel for descent to complete another miserable trip to Skelmersdale!
