Chorley 2-1 Nostell Miners Welfare 29/08/2009

Saturday August 29th, 3pm
FA Cup Preliminary Round

Chorley advanced to the next round of the national knockout competition and collected £1500 in prize money, but were made to fight all the way to the end by our Northern Counties East opponents.

In a first ever meeting of the two sides, Chorley had the better of the first half exchanges, taking the lead three minutes into injury time before the interval when midfielder Karl Brown made amends for two poor corners minutes earlier by curling in a sweet free-kick, leaving the visiting keeper rooted to the spot.

Prior to the goal, Danny Nolan went close early on with a header, Terry Fearns fired just wide, Chris Smalley chipped just inches over and Chris Amandi also went close, while at the other end of the field Nostell had two efforts, one wide and one just two high that caght the Magpies on the break.

After the interval Smalley stuggled to get to a Fearns cross, only managing to knee his effort at the post while Brown tried his luck again from the dead ball, but this time shot wide and Fearns looked to have left his shooting boots at home but chipping just wide.

Nostell then began their best period of the game and with a left wing break Danny Highley nodded in at the near post.

Later in the game Brown saw a pile drived palmed over, and following a foul on Fearns, Chris Amandi warmed the keepers hands with a tame penalty.

However, from the resulting corner, substitute Josh Kenworthy headed home to setup a trip to Glossop North End in the 1st Qualifying Round.
