Colne 1-0 Chorley 29/09/2009

Lancashire Challenge Trophy 1st Round

On a night when players minds where obviously focused on future FA Cup and Trophy commitments, the Magpies crashed out of this season Lancashire Challenge Trophy with an embarrassing defeat at the hands of North West Counties side Colne, who thoroughly deserved their victory.

Chorley were well and truly on top for the opening twenty minutes, but then passes started to go astray on a slope that made memories of Grundy Hill seem almost flat!

Danny Nolan had two good chances, one saved the other cleared off the line, either side of a Chris Amadi shot that was blocked, and a series of Reece Kelly corners from the top of the hill troubled the home defence early on.  Then the tie started to turn in the favour of the home side.

Attacking down the slope at Holt House is a fine balancing of precision over power; if you over hit your pass slightly it will go flying out for a goal kick as the slope is so severe as one end, and this is what let Chorley down and we never recovered afterwards, even when we kicked up hill in the second half!

Seven minutes into the second half Colne won the game with a wander strike from 18 yards by Cockett, that flew in off the bar, giving Jamie Scott no chance.

After this the onslaught for an equaliser took time to gather pace, and it wasn't until the final minutes that Chorley had chances.  Had any been taken it would have been unjust in Colne who deserved their moment of glory, and take a step closer to playing at the Reebok Stadium.

The good news of the night was there were no injuries of suspensions picked up ahead of an important eight days of football, and the news that four new arrivals are due to sign shortly, one a very familiar face to Chorley supporters...;-)
