Garforth Town 1-1 Chorley 06/10/2009

Tuesday October 6th, 7.45pm

Following a night when the heavens opened and completely soaked my note book this match summary might just have a few things missing from the match!

Right from the kick-off Garforth almost took the lead, but a shot with just 15 seconds on the clock went wide, and signalled Town's intensions.

At the other end, the Magpies struggled to get used to the relentless heavy rain, but when we did get a shot at goal former FC Halifax stopper Criaig Ellison was in fine form.

Town deserved their lead when the goal came, but it proved to be the turning point as from here on Chorley grew stronger and stronger, taking an ever tighter grip of the game.

Before half time Danny Nolan, who was impressive throughout, saw two shots go narroely wide and one header come back off the bar; Chris Amadi had a couple of efforts drift beyond the wood work and; Terry Fearns had a couple of chances and also teed up Jamie Vermiglio, but the number eight could quite get on the end of the cross.

In the final minute of the half, Vermiglio was bursting through and went in for a 50/50 ball, but had to hobble off the pitch in agony while ensuring the family jewels were intact!

Following the break Chorley's grip of the game continued to tighten and how we only scored the one goal was amazing.  Almost every outfield player had a chance in the half, and despite Garforth being reduced to 10 men following Brett Renshaws red card for retaliation, we only managed to find a way past Ellison once.
