Woodley Sports 0-1 Chorley 07/11/2009

Saturday November 7th, 3pm

Un-pretty, at times scrappy and not without a bit of luck - it is often this type of game that can turn your season around - lets hope that is the case after this one-nil win at Lambeth Grove.

Chorley rode early luck with Woodley tested Zac Hibbert in the first minute, but the Chorley keeper was quick to get down to smother what would be called a daisy cutter on a real pitch!

Just three minutes later the home side thought they had scored when a free-kick from 20 yards curled round the wall and went in off the post.  As the home players celebrated, the referee and the visitors got on with the game as the free-kick awarded was indirect!

Chorley's first chance came the way of Wayne Maden, but his back header went narrowly wide.

Hibbert then saved well from another dead ball and following this Terry Fearns at other end created a chance from nothing.  With his back to goal, he juggled the ball up and overhead kicked the ball at goal.  The home keeper almost pushed the ball into his own goal before the danger was cleared and his blushed saved.

Before the end of the half Danny Nolan had two shots blocked either side of another excellent Hibbert save at full length.

After the interval, Hibbert, again, had to be at his best to keep Woodley at bay, while Fearns shot narrowly over following a sliderule pass from Nolan.

With fifteen minutes remaining the referee awarded Woodley a penalty following a James Mullinuex tackle, but the usually reliable Gavin Salmon put his effort well wide.

Josh Kenworthy and new signing Jamie Nay joined the action in place of Chris Amadi and Nolan as Steve Waywell changed things around a little to freshen the attack up and it worked.  With just four minutes remaining, Kenworthy broke through and fired a rocked past the keeper to bring an end to the recent run of defeats.

XI: Zac Hibbert, Chris Mason, Tom Walker, Chris Smalley, Wayne Maden, James Mullineux, Adam Kozlowski, Reece Kelly, Terry Fearns, Danny Nolan, Chris Amadi

Subs: Jamie Scott (Fearns), Jamie Nay (Nolan), Josh Kenworthy (Amadi)

Att: 1-0
