Chorley 4-2 Trafford 14/11/2009

Saturday November 14th, 3pm

The Magpies recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, following up last week victory over Woodley with this four-two win over seventh played Trafford

Three players made their first starts for the club under Steve Waywell.  Jamie Nay started at right back following a substitute appearance last week, and former Port Vale midfielder Neil Brisco started in the heart of midfield and on the right, Mike Eckerley, returning to the club from Radcliffe Borough, got off to a flyer with a goal after just two minutes.

The opening goal came following a corner, that Trafford failed to deal with.  Captain-for-the-day Chris Smalley turned the ball back into the box and Eckersley was on hand to stab the ball home from close range,

In the remainder of the half, Trafford showed why they were above us in the league, and Zac Hibbert's continued good form kept the visitors at bay with a couple of useful saves.

Trafford found a way back into the game early after the restart when Gallendars turned in a right wing cross.

Parity only lasted four minutes when Terry Fearns ended his recent goal famine.  Smalley was again the creator with a long ball over the top, Fearns latched onto the pass, got past his marker and turned the keeper before calmly slotting home from 18 yards.

The game was starting to get stretched as Trafford search for a second equaliser, while the Magpies continued to probe for a third, and it was the home side that indeed scored next.

Eckersley, searching for his second goal, had an attempt blocked, but the ball fell kindly to Chris Mason, who hammered the ball into the top of the net.

Just two minutes later Trafford pegged back the deficit when Scott Barlow, who put a few past the Magpies last season, scored off the inside of the post.

With just minutes left on the clock, the goal of the game arrived when Danny Nolan finished off a direct counter attack.  Hibbert launched the ball up field and Josh Kenworthy, in a rare yet impressive starting appearance flicked the ball onto substitute Nolan.  Danny controlled the ball, stepped inside and fired home into the bottom corner.
