LFA Challenge Trophy, Quarter-Final
The Magpies put in a scintillating second half performance to blow away Blue Square Premier hosts Southport at Haig Avenue.
Following the initial set back of losing keeper Dean Porter midway through the second half, Chorley stood firm in the first half and were unlucky to go in at the break all square against a side that contained six regular Port first teamers. Indeed the Chorley side saw more changes to the starting eleven when you comparing both sides line-ups to their previous fixture.
The second half performance through brought back memories of the opening games of the season as the rampant Magpies ripped Southport’s defence apart at will. Shelton Payne netted twice before the hosts were reduced to ten men, than further goals from Dale Whitham and a 30 yard last minute chip over the keeper from Nathan Fairhurst sealed the win before Southport lost another player to an early bath.
In the semi-final we will face AFC Fylde at the County Ground, Leyland, on Wednesday January 26th (the trip to Witton Albion is now off). The prize for the winner being a trip to the Reebok Stadium to face Bamber Bride on Monday March 14th in the final.
