Tuesday February 1st
Chorley recorded a rare, yet comfortable, league win at the Giant Axe with a wander striker by diminutive winger Tom Ince and debut goal from Adam Roscoe.
Pre-match talk was all about our capture of City captain Andy Teague, but a gentlemen’s agreement between the two clubs meant the central defender will have to wait a little longer to make his Magpies debut. However re-signed striker Adam Roscoe made a goal scoring return to the club netting the decisive second goal just after the interval.
Even though Chorley dominated possession for long periods it was the host how came closest to opening the scoring right from the kick-off, but Lloyd Rigby, in for the injured Aaron Grundy, snuffed out the attack.
John Cunliffe continued his recent fine form upfront, linking play and creating openings for his teammates as well as being unlucky on a few occasions.
Roscoe then had two chances, one shot was blocked then headed an Ince corner at goal, but Fearon was equal to the effort.
The opening goal was a scorcher of a volley from the corner of the eighteen-yard box. Ince picked up the ball following a corner routine and hammered it first time across the keeper into the far top corner.
Minutes later it should have been two when Roscoe ran at the defence and laid the ball square to Dale Whitham, but the usually reliable goals corer put his chance over the bar when he should have scored.
The second goal was smashed home by Roscoe from eight-yards following a bit of ball juggling from the big striker; meaning he has now scored on both his Chorley debuts!
City had a good chance, but the shot from 4 yards sailed over the bar and stand following a goalmouth scramble.
The Magpies could have added to their tally, but in truth they were comfortable throughout the night without needed to move into top gear.
