Colwyn Bay 2-2 Chorley 08/02/11

Tuesday February 8th
League Cup, 4th Round

Colwyn Bay won 7-6 on penalties

On a mild evening in North Wales, it took extra-time to separate these two sides as a keenly fought League Cup tie went all the way to penalties.

After Bay took the lead on 65 minutes, the Magpies dominated the remainder of normal time, with Dale Whitham netting the equaliser, smashing home from the ‘D’.

Into extra time and a big shout for a penalty was turned down following what looked a clear foul on Mark Houghton, then just after the restart for the second period of extra time the home team regained the lead.

But the Magpies never lie down and into injury in extra-time up popped Dale Whitham with his sixteenth goal of the season...  The the dreaded penalties!

Bay hit the bar with their first and Matt Jansen took full advantage firing us in front.

Tom Walker then had his missed and the two sides traded kicks (Lee Woodyatt and Mark Houghton converting for the Magpies) until Bay fired over with the last of the opening five, just when the could have won the match.

Steve Burke then saw his shot saved as the scored remained level.  Andy Russell, Dale Whitham and Dean Porter followed Bay strikes to take the gam to six all.  Bay edged in front with their ninth spot kick but Jonathan Smith 's effort was the third spot kick Andy Metcalf saved to send bay through to the next round.

At least we can now concentrate on the league?
