The Magpies succumbed to their heaviest defeat of the season following a flat performance at Victory Park and also saw captain Steve Flitcroft see red.
Chorley, not for the first time in recent weeks, failed to get going and were perhaps lucky to go in at the break all square as Chris Thompson and Gavin Salmon stretched the home defence. The visitor’s backline were rarely tested and the best home chances fell to Jordan Stepien and Shelton Payne, but both efforts sailed into the Duke Street end stand.
The Wire took the lead just seven minutes into the second period when Gavin Salmon outpaces Andy Russell and slotted the ball between Lloyd Rigby and his near post.
It was almost two-nil immediately after the restart, but the Magpies hung on and cleared their lines then a third attempt on the Chorley goal in under eight minutes slammed into the side netting.
With twenty minutes to go a Stepien strike from a free-kick was blocked by the wall and from this Warrington broke soaking a second, but shot narrowly wide.
The only plus of the day for home fans was the return to action of Jamie Vermiglio, on from the bench in place of Payne.
With a little over quarter of an hour remaining the game was over when Warrington finally doubled their lead when ex-Magpie Thompson flicked a long ball beyond Rigby.
The third saw the usually infallible Andrew Teague get caught ball watching and Thompson netted again.
Flitcroft was sent for an early bath just minutes from the end for a second bookable offence, then visiting keeper Paul Pritchard made his first real save of the afternoon on ninety minutes when he acrobatically tipped a Tom Ince free-kick over the bar.
Overall a disappointing performance and a well-earned three points and league double for Warrington Town. Now, in the face of adversity, is the time for the team to stand up and be counted and battle their way through this lean spell and return to point winning ways.
