Chorley got back into winning ways and in enthralling local derby clash with Bamber Bridge.
Brig had the better of the open exchanges, forcing a hand full of corners and free-kicks, but the Magpies rear-guard kept the visitors at bay. After quarter of an hour the tide turned and stayed turned as the hosts then dominated the remainder of the game.
Garry Flitcroft made four changes to the starting line-up following the insipid performance against Warrington, and the change in personnel certainly livened things up as Chorley looked to be up for the challenge and took the game to Bamber Bridge for long periods, something that was dearly lacking previously.
Matt Jansen headed narrowly wide a couple of chances in the opening forty-five minutes, one of the created by Dale Whitham ball juggling on the edge of the area and Brig captain Michael White almost lobbed his own keeper when attempting to clear. Captain Steve Flitcroft almost rounded off a spell of possession, but his shot was well saved by Ben Hinchcliffe between the sticks for Brig.
The second half got off to a flyer with two efforts from John Cunliffe, the second one a superb volley past Hinchcliffe after being teed up by Jansen.
Brig had an effort cleared off the line in a rare foray forward as the hosts bossed the midfield with Whitham outstanding on the right flank and Flitcroft and Jamie Vermiglio, who was making only his ninth league start of the season, solid as a rock through the centre.
Jansen made way with a little over an hour on the clock for Adam Roscoe to join the attack and shortly after Roscoe was very unlucky to see a powerful drive blocked by the feet of Cunliffe following a moved that had the home supports olaying each pass and chanting ‘just like watching Brazil!’.
With just a few minute remaining and Brig trying their best to forge an opening through the solid Magpies defence, Roscoe ended the game as a contest, nodding home a Cunliffe cross from close range.
