The Magpies notched up their fifth league double of the season by seeing off Mossley at Seel Park, with debutant Steve Foster netting between strikes by Tom Ince and John Cunliffe.
It looked like a rout was on the offing as the Magpies set off at a terrific pace and both Foster and Cunliffe, who hit the foot of the post, had chances to open the scoring before Ince’s 7th minute striker.
The opening goal concluded a flowing move in which ended with Cunliffe sliding the ball through the Ince who slotted into the far corner beyond the reach of ex-Magpie custodian Peter Collinge, who incidentally was awarded the sponsors man of the match award!
Dale Whitham, impressive yet again in midfield, had a shot from distance easily save by Collinge, who then launched a counter attack. Mike Oakes ran past Lee Woodyatt and crossed to Chris Hall, but the big striker could make contact with be ball as it crossed the face of the goal.
This missed opportunity was compounded for the home team when Foster struck his first for the club but his twenty-seventh goal of the season when he chipped Collinge superbly from the edge of the box on 23 minutes.
A two goal cushion appeared to give Chorley a false sense of security; as almost straight away a penalty was conceded following Aaron Grundy foul on Chris Rowney which he was lucky not to receive a yellow card for. Matty Kay converted.
With Mossley now back to a single goal deficit, Chorley tightened things up but were confortable for the remainder of the half with an Ince free-kick the closest to a chance in the remainder of the half.
Mossley opened the second period the stronger and Kay almost netted his second with a long range effort the hit the bar.
However with an hour on the clock a corner from Ince landed nicely for Cunliffe on the edge of the box. He advanced into the area and slotted into the far corner in style.
The keepers then dominated preceeding with Collinge make three quality saves and at the other end Grundy was equally impressive with two stops.
