AFC Fylde 1-1 Chorley - 17/09/2011

Saturday September 17th, 3pm
FA Cup 1st Qualifier

THE Magpies face an FA Cup replay following this one-all draw at a rain soaked Kellamergh Park.

Fylde were defiantly up for this game and were perhaps looking for revenge following our victory back in May’s play-off fina. They made the most of the early running, but the Magpies rock solid defence and ace keeper Russell Saunders kept the Coasters at bay.

Thorpe, Barnes and Allen all had chances as the hosts, but none could beat the Magpies back line, while at the other end the travelling supporters had to wait until the 25th minute for the first chance of note when Steve Flitcroft fired over form 30 yards.

This woke the Magpies up with Adam Roscoe and Steve Foster send shots over.

The final chance of the game was the making of Saunders, whose misplaces pass to Ali Brown let the Fylde attacking, but the keeper made up for the error with a fantastic save.

Within five minutes of the restart Tom Ince drilled the Magpies in front, picking up the pieces on the edge of the box following a Tom Walker long throw.

The lead only lasted six minutes as fullback Heywood tapped in at the post following excellent approach play by Thorpe

Despite the game being open from here on in, there were few occasions when either keeper was stretched and a replay was perhaps the fairest result.
