Lancashire Co-Operative Challenge Trophy 2nd Round
THE MAGPIES were in seventh heaven as they recorded a comfortable victory over their North West Counties opponents to progress to the quarter-finals of the Lancashire Co-Operative Challenge Trophy, with seven different players netting.
With several changes to the starting line-up from the side that drew a blank against Stocksbridge at the weekend several fringe players were given a chance in the starting line-up and everyone took advantage of the rotation, with Jordan Bowen especially impressing on his home debut.
Chorley got off to a great start when Chris Denham volleyed in a Simon Whaley cross n just four minutes.
Bowen grabbed the second when he capitalised on a mistake by former Chorley keeper Jamie Scott, poking the ball under the keeper after he failed to hold a Whaley shot.
Bowen the created the third, advancing into the box then intelegently squaring to Dale Whitham, leaving the midfielder with an open goal to aim at for the third.
Ashton pulled one back two minutes later when Brad Cooke’s shot took a deflection to beat Dean Porter, who saw little else action all night.
Whaley stabbed the ball beyond the keeper to make it four-one to the Magpies just before the interval.
It took twenty five minutes of second half action for the net to bulge again, this time leading scorer Steve Foster turned in a Tom Walker cross from close range.
Steve Flitcroft scored the goal of the game, chipping in from 30 yards, only to be substituted seconds later!
Matt Walwyn completed the scoring in the last minute, netting from close range.
In the other ties tonight, AFC Fylde defeated AFC Darwen 6-1, Lancaster City defeated Southport by the odd goal in three, Barrow beat Colne 3-0 and Radcliffe Borough ad Wigan Robin Park knocked Fleetwood Town and Squaires Gate out respectively after a penalty shootouts. The remaining ties, Burscough v Bamber Bridge and Padiham v Kendal Town take place on Wednesday November 16th.
