Droylsden 3-2 Chorley 11/08/2012

CHORLEY rounded off their pre-season programme with a narrow defeat away to Blue Square North side Droylsden.

Both sides had early chances, with Magpies captain Andy Teague heading the first and best narrowly wide on 8 minutes.

On 23 minutes the hosts took the lead on the counter attack when Phoenix fired under keeper Andy Robertson.

Chorley levelled on 26 minutes when Ciaran Kilheeney, on his old stomping ground, pounced on a rebound to tap home after Keiran Walmsley shot from the edge of the box was only blocked.

After the interval Droylsden had a spell on top and two goals from Connor gave the hosts a comfortable looking lead, however after six changes by Garry Flitcroft, bringing on fresh legs in the mid-summer heat, Chorley crawled their way into the game and were unlucky not to get at draw.

Ahmadi Proya netted the Magpies second goal, heading in a Matt Jansen cross to reduce the deficit, but a third didn’t materialise.

Results of course don’t matter until this Friday, but the big plus of today’s game were the appearances of Tom Walker and Dale Whitham who played 60 and 30 minutes respectively without any ill effects.
