Chorley 5-1 Frickley Athletic - 20/10/2012

CHORLEY returned to winning ways and  gained revenge over Frickley for our FA Cup defeat with Proya Ahmadi capping a man of the match performance with a hat-trick.

Things didn’t go entirely to plan with Frickley taking the lead early in the first half, but the second half started all square and the goals soon started to flow.

Adam Roscoe almost put the Magpies in front after just 8 seconds, but his shot across the face of goal raced harmlessly wide.

Frickley took a surprise lead on 8 minutes. Roscoe lost possession in midfield and from this the visitors raced at goal with Gavin Allott slotting home.

Being a goal down at home against the leagues bottom club wasn’t the response Garry would have wanted after Tuesday night’s capitulation against Fylde, and for a time Chorley looked edgy with mistakes creeping into most player’s games.

However the games began to swing the Magpies way at around the 25th minute mark.

The impressive Kirk Millar crossed to Proya Ahmadi, but the Iranian’s headed went agonisingly over the bar, but he only had to wait two minutes to bag his first competitive goal for the club.

This time it was Millar’s Oldham teammate Dave Mellor who supplied the ball into the box.  His point point free-kick picked Ahmadi out at the far post and his stabbed the ball home.

Two minutes after the restart Mellor was again the supplier, delivering another perfect ball into the box and Dale Whitham flick header notched the midfielders first goal since Boxing Day.

Frickley were on the ropes and it was only a matter of time before the third goal was scored, and it was Ahmadi with his second, converting somewhat comically from the penalty spot.

Following gamesmanship from Frickley winger Jimmy Ghaichem, trying his best to delay and put off Ahmadi as he prepared to take the kick, the striker then slipped on the run up!  He completely miskicked the ball and ended up flat out on the pitch watching the ball loop into the air and just beat the visitor’s keeper Tom Woodhead as he scrambled to regain his footing.

On 76 minutes the hat-trick was complete.  Millar crossed, Roscoe nodded down and Ahmadi finished.

Ciaran Kilheeney, a substituted for Ahmadi, added the fifth goal eight minutes from time, beating the keeper when one-on-one, to cap a great result, one which will hopefully kick-start our stuttering start to the season.
