Chorley 1-0 Matlock Town - 02/03/2013

Saturday March 2nd, 3pm
League

The Magpies got back to winning ways at home as the Gladiators were vanquished at Victory Park.

It took a special goal from Ahmadi Porya in the 88th minute to seal the three points, but it was a deserved win against a robust and combative Matlock side that have a game plan and stuck to it.

The winning goal was a real match winning with Ahmadi receiving the ball on the edge of the area, he twisted to turn his marker and curled a beautifully in the keepers top right corner, sending the majority of the 560 crowd delirious.

However Chorley could have been out of site by half time; Tom Ince, Dale Whitham, Keil O’Brien Cameron Darkwah and debutant and man of the match Tom Baker all having chances, while at the other end Jack Cudworth was a mere spectator for long spells.

After the interval Darkwah ran through the visitor’s defence, but keeper John Kennedy raced off his line and just beat the Magpies striker to the ball on the edge of the area.

Roscoe had three chances; firing a free-kick wide after a foul on Darkwah, making contact with a defender rather than the ball when he attempted his trademark overhead bicycle kick and seeing a shot from 18 yards charged down.

At the other end Matlock forced a series of corners, but Cudworth and his defence dealt with everything thrown at them.

Debutant Baker, signing earlier in the day from league rivals Ashton United made in immediate impact in the centre of midfield, talking well and demonstrating his impressive range of passing, rarely giving the ball away – a worthy man of the match.
