Matlock Town 1-0 Chorley - 23/10/2012

Tuesday October 23rd, 7.45pm

A DISSAPOINTING Magpies toiled with little reward against a solid if workman like Matlock Town.

The hosts managed by former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Mark Atkins, are pretty much in his image; hard working, difficult to beat and unspectacular but most of all effective, something the visitors were not on the night.

Garry Flitcrofts team selection was hampered during the warm up when Dale Whitham had to be withdrawn from the squad as a precaution.  Simon Garner moved up from the bench with Matt Jansen taking his place amongst the substitutes.

The first half, the goal apart, was a mostly a midfield tussle, with occasionally the ball moving from end to end, but neither keeper being tested.

Massiah McDonald was the Matlock hero, netting from the yards on 36 minutes, finishing off a move from the left flank on 36 minutes.

The second half was more of the same, though the hosts did put the ball into the net only for the goal to be chalked off for a foul on Jack Cudworth.

Ciaran Kilheeney, on for Saturday’s hat-trick hero Proya Ahmadi, had the best of Chorley’s few chances, but he couldn’t convert Tom Inces whipped in cross just two minutes from time.

Chorley XI: Jack Cudworth, Ashley Parillon, Dave Mellor, Andy Teague, Mark Ross, Simon Garner, Kirk Millar, Jamie Vermiglio, Adam Roscoe, Proya Ahmadi, John Cunliffe
