Frickley Athletic 0-1 Chorley - 16/02/2013

Saturday February 16th, 3pm

A headed goal from Adam Roscoe inside the opening minute earned three valuable points and a third league double of the season.

New signing Pau Jarvis from AFC Fylde went straight into the side and played a key role in the goal, winning and then taking the corner.  His ball into the box was nodded toward goal by towering defender Keil O’Brien with Roscoe diverted the ball beyond the home defence from close range.

Roscoe then went close on 15 minutes with a free kick which home keeper Jamie Green took two attempts to gather.

At the other end Jack Cudworth was called into action for the first time to make a routine save then launched a counter attached which ended with Cameron Darkwah attempting an overhead kick from an Andy Russell knock down, Frickley cleared the danger.

Green then beat Darren Stephenson to the ball in a one-on-one.

Frickley tried to find a way back into the match, but the Magpies back line looked solid as a rock, with just once laps in concentration letting Frickley’s Chris Wood through clear on goal, but Cudworth was up to the challenge

After the break Ashley Parillon replaced Mark Ross at full-back and soon after Tom Ince replaced Jarvis who had tweaked his thigh.

Andy Teague threw his body on the line, taking a the full force of a free-kick in the family jewels then a bang to the head as he cleared the ball – leading the side to victory by example.

Stephenson could have added to the score.  His first attempt saw the ball cannoned off him and hit the post after he collided on the edge of the area, then he blasted wide late on, Ince should have added the second goal when put clean through following a fantastic ball from Parillon, but he pulled his shot wide of the far post and finally Ahmadi Porya forced a save from Green in injury time.

Jack Cudworth pulled off a great save with fifteen minutes to go, a superb reflex save denying a close range volley.

Finally Chorley should have had a penalty in the fifth minute of time added on, the referee’s assistant certainly agreed when he flagged furiously after Stephenson was dragged down in the area, unfortunately the referee failed to agree and finally showed a rare moment of restraint by not blowing his overused whistle!
