Chorley’s first half performance should have seen the side home and dry at the interval, but lucky deflections, the woodwork and bad choices meant despite dominating the scores where level at the break.
After the restart, and despite taking a deserved lead in the 49th minutes through James Dean, Oxford grew into the game as the Magpies dominance faded and at the final whistle deserved their point thanks to Lee Henderson’s headed equaliser.
After a quiet opening twenty minutes to the match suddenly came alive.
Aaron Burns drove against the crossbar from just outside the area, James Dean fluffed a one-on-one with the keeper with two players in support, Josh Hine just failed to get a contact onto a Dean cross, Burns then had a close range effort blocked on the line and then crossed the Chris Almond who kneed the chance over.
Hine then again was unlucky at the back post as the ball just evaded him following a slight deflection; surely the half time inquest would be about who had run over a black cat!
After the interval Dean made no mistake heading in a perfect left wing centre from skipper Andy Teague in the 49th minutes, but rather than push on from here the Magpies sat deeper and deeper inviting Oxford to attack, and this they did.
Ten minutes into the half and a sitter was missed then Sam Ashton saved well, tipping a shot onto the bar with the follow up effort luckily heading for orbit rather than the back of the net.
Midway through the half Ashton made the save of the match with a stunning reflex save to keep the visitors out on 70 minutes just after it was poor finishing that kept the ball out of Ashton’s goal.
With ten minutes to go the equalisers was bagged. Henderson nodded in a corner from close range to give the visitors hope of making a successful 380 mile round trip.
However, that was the final clear cut change of the match and the result means Chorley have taken just one point from our last three outings!
