Pre-season continued this evening with a second successive five-star outing.
The Magpies repeated the result from Saturday’s 5-1 win at Euxton Villa with a repeat performance against Ashton United.
The goals shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone who had read the team sheet, with Josh Hine, James, Dean, Chris Almond and new loan signing Marcus Carver all starting, while Darren Stephenso, Lewis Guy and Aaaron Burns had to wait for their turn form the bench.
Throughout the opening 45 minutes Chorley played some good football, creating numerous chances with Almond, Carver, Sam Sheridan and James Dean all have chances for the visitors while Adam Morning was a threat for the hosts.
Almond, who has been one of the leading lights during the summer opened the scoring on 31 minutes, tapping in from close range from a Carver cross.
Almond added a second five minutes later when he headed into an empty net before turning creator on 41 minutes, slipping the ball through to Hine who netted from an acute angle.
After the restart Sam Ashton had to be at his best to deny Morning with an excellent fingertip save which was followed up by a block save from Joel Melia.
Despite a series of substitutions, both sides continued to play good football and it was the hosts to added netted first in the second half, Sam Wilson capitalising in a poor header across his own goal form Dale Whitham on 64 minutes.
With twenty minutes remaining, Guy and Burns, playing against one of his former club, came on and two minutes later the pair combined’ Burns pulling the ball back but Guy shot inches wide.
The two substitute attackers weren’t denied on 78 minutes through as a superb delivery from Guy on the left was slid in by Burns on his old patch, then a minute later Burns added a second, this time converting a centre from Hine.
