Darren Stephenson’s 78th minute strike was cancelled out by a late header from substitute Leon Mettam as the score finished 1-1 between Chorley and Tamworth at Victory Park writes Jack Wynne.
12 minutes from time, Stephenson broke the deadlock, tapping in the rebound after his first shot was saved by James Belshaw.
Mettam salvaged a point for the Lambs three minutes from time, heading past Sam Ashton from close range.
Into the first minute, Elliot Durrell made a darting run into the box before firing a dangerous cross right along the face of goal but fortunately for Chorley, no one took a risk.
Durrell looked to catch Ashton out but his shot from distance failed to test the Chorley goalkeeper.
Danny Newton’s driven shot inside the box was spilled by Ashton initially before the Chorley keeper gathered the ball at the second attempt.
Stephenson had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock seven minutes before the interval when put through one-on-one with Belshaw but the Tamworth goalkeeper blocked the shot with his leg.
A minute later, Stephenson’s shot from outside the box went through the legs of Belshaw and almost into the back of the net but the Tamworth stopper just managed to grab hold of the ball.
Into the second half, Jack Lynch looked to force a save out of Belshaw but his low shot was blocked by Daniel Preston.
At the other end, Newton looked to put the Lambs in front after racing clear of the Chorley back line but his shot across the ground was gathered with ease by Ashton.
Paul Jarvis tried a speculative shot from distance but his effort veered wide of the target and into the stand.
Andy Teague made a vital interception to deny Newton after the Tamworth forward looked to be in one-on-one with just Ashton to beat.
Stephenson fired the magpies in front twelve minutes from time, tapping in the rebound after Belshaw saved his first attempt.
Shane Clarke went agonizingly close to equalizing for the visitors, his shot from inside the box rattling the bar.
Mettam equalized for Tamworth three minutes from time, his header from inside the box flying in off the post.
