AFC Fylde 1-0 Chorley (02/01/2016)

Saturday January 2nd, 3pm

Danny Rowe’s thunderbolt seven minutes from time sealed all three points for Fylde at Kellamergh Park writes Jack Wynne.

James Dean missed a penalty in the 23rd minute, wasting a chance to end nearly nine months without scoring in the league.

Two minutes played, Jack Lynch took aim from the edge of the box but his shot flew wide of the goal.

Danny Rowe’s corner found Danny Lloyd but he could only head the ball out of play for a goal kick.

Rowe’s cross which flashed across the six yard box presented a real danger for Chorley but Lloyd arrived at the back post just too late.

18 minutes played, Dean looked to force a save out of Ben Hinchliffe but he could only divert Josh Hine’s cross into the stand.

A minute later, Andy Teague diverted Andy Bond’s corner goal wards only for Josh Wilson to head the ball wide.

22 minutes played, Dean had a chance to end a nine month drought in front of goal from the penalty spot after Caspar Hughes was penalized but he fired the ball straight over the bar.

Approaching the half hour mark, Lloyd found himself in plenty of space down the left hand side before sending a shot narrowly wide of the post.

Dion Charles put another cross along the six yard box only for Lloyd to arrive late at the back post once more.

Sam Finley took aim from outside the box, his curled effort was parried wide by Sam Ashton.

Rowe forced a fine save out of Ashton, the Chorley keeper pushing his header over the bar with his fingertips.

Into the second half, Sam Finley failed to trouble Ashton, his dipping shot flying well wide.

52 minutes played, Dale Whitham arrowed a shot high and wide after Hinchliffe had punched Bond’s corner away.

Richie Baker tried his luck from the edge of the box but it deflected off Teague and out for a corner.

Adam Roscoe’s overhead kick looked to have looped in with 59 minutes played but the goal was disallowed after Dean was adjudged to have fouled Hinchliffe.

On the hour, Darren Stephenson raced to the by line before delivering a cross which Teague headed straight over.

Stephenson showed quick feet to turn his marker but couldn’t test Hinchliffe, the shot flashing just wide of the post.

Hinchliffe was left rooted to the spot when Bond’s shot near the right hand touchline crashed off the bar.

Rowe went close to breaking the deadlock in the 69th minute, his shot from outside the box striking the upright.

Lloyd looked to test Ashton but his powerful shot was sent the wrong side of the post.

Seven minutes from time, Rowe found the opening for the Coasters, hitting an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box which flew into the back of the net, despite Ashton getting a hand to it.
