Chorley progressed through to the third round of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy 3rd Round with an easy win over North West Counties League side Nelson.
Josh Hine (shoulder) and James Dean (tonsillitis) were both absent so Matt Jansen took advantage to give as many fringe players as possible an outing, though under competition rules a minimum of eight players who played in the clubs last competitive match had to be included in the squad tonight, meaning wholesale changes were not possible.
Jack Lynch marked his first start of the season with the goal of the game on 11 minutes. A great run and cross from the left wing from Paul Jarvis was beautifully controlled on the chest by Marcus Carver who laid the ball off for Lynch to slot home beyond the home keeper.
The second saw Jarvis finish well from an Adam Roscoe centre with Jarvis shooting home from 15 yards.
The third goal was loanee Max Carwright pick the ball up inside his own half and storm forward, snaking his way through the home defence before finished coolly into the bottom right hand corner.
Chorley could have scored more, with the home keeper much busier. Lloyd Rigby had just one save to make, coming in the 89th minutes, diving to the foot of his left hand post to secure a clean sheet on his first appearance for the club since 2011.
Carver thought he had his name on the scoresheet just before the interval, but he was denied by an offside flag as was Lynch on 85 minutes, denying him his second goal of the game on a night when we truly staked a claim for some National League action.
