AFC Darwen 0-6 Chorley (06/07/2017)

Thursday July 6th
Pre-season Friendly

Chorley comfortably defeated Darwen at the Anchor Ground in their latest pre-season fixture writes Josh Vosper. With Matt Jansen away, both Jamie Vermiglio and Jonathan Smith took charge and the game started in quick fashion. After a bombardment of forward attacks Josh O’Keefe found the net after just 7 minutes. It was all one way traffic and soon after O’Keefe made it two, heading the ball home after Cottrell was thwarted with a tackle in the build-up.

Five minutes later it was three as new signing Terry Gornell bagged a goal, calmly keeping his head to send the defence the wrong way after a precision ball by Teague. The visitors were running riot as Darwen constantly looked for the long ball. On 33 minutes the ex-Accrington Stanley striker netted the Magpies’ fourth as he rounded the Darwen goalkeeper following a long through ball in midfield.

On the stroke of half time Jason Walker added to proceedings as Blakeman, Whitham and Carver were introduced after the interval. By now the game was won and Chorley were content with playing to feet and cutting out any threat Darwen possessed. With quarter of an hour remaining Marcus Carver got the goal he deserved by making it six-nil. After a through ball he expertly stroked home from a tight angle to comfortably finish an impressive display.

Starting XI: Ritchie Branagan, Matt Challoner, Will Beesley, A Trialist, Scott Leather, Andy Teague, Josh O’Keefe, Paul Jarvis, Terry Gornell, Jason Walker, Josh Wilson.
