REPORT | Chorley 2 Leamington 0

Today’s game began with a 10am pitch inspection with the green given for our home tie to go ahead against Leamington, who prior to the game sat 16th in the league after breaking a 2 game losing streak in their last league tie against Spennymoor Town wining 4-0 writes Oran Willis.

Jansen started the game with an attacking looking team setting up with a 4-2-3-1 formation with a view of improving on the 21 goals in the league this season and this got off to a good start with going in 2-0 up at half time.

The Magpies had an early chance 5 minutes in with Carver picking up on a through ball by Hughes who was pressured quickly and put this shot just a yard the wrong side of the left post.

9 minutes in Blakeman and Hughes played a cheeky set piece free kick leading to a point blank save from Breeden who parried it away well.

Carver kept the pressure on by taking down a long ball from Urwin and looked to curl it in from 30 yards but his effort went high and wide.

Leamington did have a chance 20 minutes in when Dunbar beat Blakeman on the right wing and crossed to Canavan who fluffed his lines and put a clean effort high and wide from 10 yards out.

Haughton was in his normal great form jinking and jiving past 3 players to the edge of the box and rolled his shot just wide of the right post; He was angry with the pulling of his shirt and had to have a talking to from the referee.

Chorley continued to gain the upper hand with chances with two chances falling to Carver but he was unable to put the chances away both times the keeper coming out to collect the ball at Carvers feet.

Haughton again took centre stage when he took a free kick from 35 yards out and put it sweetly onto Teague’s head, who rose well to put Chorley up 1-0.

On the stroke of half time Marcus Carver pounced on to a defensive error in the box and rifled the ball into the roof of the net no more than he deserved after getting into a number of good positions in the first half.

The 2nd half continued with Chorley controlling the game but not looking likely to increase their lead.

On the 67th minute Leamington had a great chance with Revan beating Urwin and with the goal gapping Teague slid in with an excellent goal saving slide. Teague looked out of position but got back excellently to keep Chorley 2-0 further cementing his Chorley Supporters Player of Match.

The game finished 2-0 Chorley are job well done.
