Chorley dropped their first points of the season in a fantastic game of football on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Croston.
This really was an end to end entertaining game of football which for the neutral supporter would of been a joy to watch. Neither team where able to get a hold of the game in the first 10 minutes as there weighed each other up, Chorley where forced to make a substitution as Jordan Darr came off after a bang to his thigh and was replaced by Callum Rigby. Marine then went on the attack and went through on goal only for Haslam to stand firm and save well. From this Chorley then went straight up the other end and Kelsall forced his way through the Marine defence before putting his shot wide. Ryan Farnworth then picked up a nasty injury when his foot appeared to get caught up on the 3G surface and damaged his ankle. He was replaced by Joe Rolls who had the next opportunity which went close to breaking the deadlock.
It was on the 20th minute when Chorley finally opened the scoring as Kelsall picked up the ball on the half way line before driving forward with the ball forcing his way past a couple of defenders before rounding the keeper and hitting home. This seemed to spark the team into action as they pushed forward, Danny Simm had the best opportunity to extend the lead but his shot brought an excellent save from the Marine keeper.
Marine did get there equaliser in the 34th minute as a good move was finished well by the centre forward. As in previous games this once again made the Chorley team try to step up a gear as Simm put a teasing cross into the box that was met by Kelsall but his volley just went wide. A couple of minutes later Callum Rigby jinked his way down the right hand side before getting the ball in the box, once again it was Kelsall who leaped at the far post but his powerful header went straight at the keeper.
Half Time Chorley 1 v 1 Marine
As the second half got underway Harry Foulds replaced Joe Rolls in the midfield and the game seemed to mirror the start of the 1st half as both teams battled to get a foothold of the game. Danny Simm in his first game for 2 weeks due to injury was replaced by Harry Wood on the left hand side and it was a good move by him and left back Laithwaite that made the next goal. With good link up play the ball got into the box and after a couple of attempts on goal it eventually fell to Callum Darcy who’s left footed shot found the back of the net on 77 minutes.
Chorley however would not hold on as Marine’s Ryan Beigan who had been causing the Chorley defence trouble all game popped up with the equaliser in the 85th minute. This then brought a frantic end as each team went for a winner which didn’t come. Final Score 2-2
