PREVIEW: Barton Town (a)

The Magpies will face-off against Barton Town in the FA Cup on Saturday...

CHORLEY are back on the round this Saturday, FA Cup third qualifying round tie, at Barton Town.

The Magpies have had no game in midweek, and come into this game off of the back of a fantastic win against high-flying Spalding United on Saturday.

Andy Preece’s side will hope to continue to kick on, as his side takes the 124-mile long trip towards Hull on Saturday morning.

Last Time Out

The Magpies led either side of Abdaramane Sani’s equaliser and did enough to claim their fourth win of the season.

A first half short on quality saw just one clear chance for each side.

Chorley threatened first when Warren Clarke broke down the left and fizzed a ball into Max Wilson, who could not control it before Tulips goalkeeper Peter Crook claimed.

At the other end, Bart Cybulski forced Li-Bau Stowell into a good save after meeting Ben Fowkes’ cross inside the area.

Spalding started the second half brightly, Alfie Bendle seeing a half-volley cleared away by Hunt in front of Stowell.

Chorley then began to apply pressure, with Mike Calveley testing Crook twice. His first effort was tipped over before a second was deflected into the goalkeeper’s midriff.

The hosts took the lead in the 57th minute when Fielding produced a superb 25-yard strike into Crook’s bottom-right corner.

Spalding responded with two attacking changes, and the substitutes combined for the equaliser. Dan Barton’s cross from the right was met by Sani, who turned the ball into the far corner.

But Chorley continued to battle and regained the lead in the 88th minute. Adam Blakeman’s corner was headed across goal by Harvey Smith before a Spalding defender inadvertently turned it into his own net.

Preece’s side held on to secure a valuable three points.

Opposition Focus

Saturday’s hosts Barton Town come into this game full of confidence, having won 4-0 on Tuesday night, where Andy Preece was in attendance.

The Swans have been in great form of late in Step Five, currently sat in fifth position in the league table on 19 points.

A 2-0 win against North Ferriby, before beating Boldmere St. Michaels 3-1 has got them this far in the competition, the first time they have reached the third qualifying round in the club’s history.

Head-to-Head

Barton Town and Chorley have never played each other before, with Saturday’s game set to be the first ever meeting between the sides.
