AHEAD of our bumper, Bank Holiday Monday fixture versus Southport FC, we are pleased to announce we will be organising opportunities for people to donate as well as take part in a raffle to win signed football shirts by both squads (one Chorley, one Southport), with all proceeds going directly to Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
This gesture is to show our respect and solidarity to our friends over at Southport FC and all of those affected by the tragic events that unfolded in the town at the end of July.
On that day, sadly, three young girls, Bebe King, (6), Elsie Dot Stancombe (7) and Alice da Silva Aguiar (9) and ten others were seriously injured in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class club on July 29.
"Nothing anyone can do or say can ease the grief of what the families are going through. We send our love and condolences as a football club.
Southport FC have suggested that we support Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with any donations and we hope people can help us, explained Chorley FC Chairman, Jamie Vermiglio.
Last season, both clubs came together in unison as part of our Helping Hannah fundraiser and although this is seen as a "local derby", it's all the more special to see how football brings people together and I've no doubt that this will apply again here on Monday afternoon and beyond."
Darren Jenkinson and his team at the Chorley FC Community Foundation will be leading the collections, which will take place on the day.
"Alder Hey is one of the biggest children's hospitals in the UK and the team there were responsible for hospitalising and taking care of those involved in the recent knife attack in Southport. Not only that, but, they also look after children 365 days a year who require specialised treatment.
As the Chorley Community Foundation, we are proud to be supporting this and are happy to be backing Alder Hey through the raffle and donations on Monday." said, Darren Jenkinson.
We look forward to welcoming both sets of supporters on what promises to be a fantastic occasion at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.
