CHORLEY returned to the top step of the Vanarama National League North table after a 0-1 away win against Farsley Celtic in midweek.

Andy Preece’s side are now back on home soil against third-place Curzon Ashton this Saturday in what will be a thrilling top of the table clash.

The Opponents

Curzon Ashton have had a flying start to the new season, with games in hand on other teams around them.

The Nash recently had their game against Radcliffe postponed at half-time after the pitch was deemed to be waterlogged.

On the other hand, Craig Mahon’s side won 1-0 at home on Tuesday night thanks to Jimmy Spencer’s first half-goal to topple Southport.

Stefan Mols is the top goalscorer for the Nash, with the midfielder scoring six goals for the 3rd place side.

Meanwhile, on the creative side of things, Spencer is the player creating the most chances for his teammates, with the frontman having three assists and two goals to his name this season.

The Manager

Craig Mahon is in charge of the Nash, and the player-manager has had a fine start to life at Curzon.

In September 2023, the 35-year-old took on the role on an interim basis and took over at the helm permanently in Feburary of 2024 and has had his players playing some fine football.

Mahon has played for several clubs throughout his career, including Wigan Athletic, Accrington Stanley, Burscough, Vauxhall Motors, Chester, AFC Fylde, and finally Curzon Ashton.

This being Mahon's first job in management is a credit to himself and his staff for how well he is doing with his squad.

It will be a fascinating battle on Saturday.

A word from Preecy

“It’ll be a really tricky game this weekend when we welcome Curzon Ashton. Craig has his side firing on all cylinders and they’re the best team I’ve watched so far this season. We’re still a little bit light in terms of bodies, but, I’m confident if we perform at our best, we’re in with a right chance of getting the right result on Saturday.”
