PREVIEW: Scunthorpe United (a)
Published on  Updated on

A last-minute winner for Scarborough Athletic saw the Magpies fall to their first defeat of the 2024/25 season on Tuesday night, but this is the chance for the Magpies to bounce right back against another tough opposition.

Craig Hewitt scored his first league goal for Chorley with a beautiful finish, cutting in from the left-hand side and finding the bottom right corner.

The tricky winger will be looking to take that confidence over to Scunthorpe United this weekend.

The Opponents

Scunthorpe United have started the season well. Their unbeaten start to the campaign sees them at the top of the league with a more positive goal difference.

Winning their two opening games 3-0 and getting an important win away at Needham Market, the Iron know how to score goals with Alfie Beestin and Danny Whitehall, both players who have got two goals so far this season and are the club's joint top goalscorers so far.

Andrew Boyce is a toweing defender for Scunthorpe United and he will be a massive threat from set pieces this Saturday, so experienced centre-half Mark Ellis will likely be the one tasked with handling him at the ATTIS Arena.

It is likely that former Magpie, Carlton Ubaezuonu will be involved for the visitors after serving a three-match ban coming into the season.

The Manager

Andy Butler is the new head coach of the Irons, following the departure of former head coach Jimmy Dean last season.

It has been a very good start to life for Butler in Scunthorpe. The 40-year-old coach is unbeaten so far, and the former defender will be looking to continue that way this Saturday.

The former defender has played for several clubs in his playing career, including Huddersfield, Scunthorpe United, Blackpool, Walsall, Grimbsy, Doncaster Rovers and Farsley Celtic.

This is Butler's first full season in charge of a club, and his experience cannot be undermined with such a positive start to the season so far. Glanford Park has been a notoriously tricky place to go, so the Magpies will have to be at their best to beat a high-flying Andy Butler team.

A word from Preecy

"Scunthorpe have started really well, Andy has his side firing on all cylinders already and we know, that going there will be a very tough test for us. Hopefully, we can build on the positives from our opening three games and get a good result."
