CHORLEY fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Horsfall Stadium against Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday afternoon, writes Pete Tscherewik.

The Magpies started on the front-foot and very nearly took the lead inside the opening ten minutes, Will Tomlinson denied a tap-in from close range by a Park Avenue defender after Jack Hazelhurst slipped a ball through into his path.

Rain began to fall in West Yorkshire in what remained a relatively quiet first-half through to the break – the hosts’ only real half-chance coming from a mix up in defence that was fortunately dealt with by Matt Urwin who swept in to tackle Will Longbottom.

Andy Preece made four changes after the restart and the hosts had the first big opportunity on 52 minutes, Brad Dockerty just unable to get a clean contact on the ball after being played through by Lucas Oduston.

The hosts did eventually break the deadlock with just under 20 minutes left to play – a trialist heading well from a corner, before getting in on the rebound second time round after Matt Urwin’s initial save.
