THE Magpies kicked off their 2024/25 pre-season campaign with a narrow 2-3 away win against Ashton Town.

Chorley opened the scoring through skipper on the day, Mark Ellis - heading in from new recruit, Jack Rice’s smart cross.

Continuing to be largely on top for the majority of the opening 45 minutes, Andy Preece’s side doubled their lead just before the break - Momodou Touray converting from the spot after a blatant handball inside the area.

The hosts, to their credit, didn’t lie down and pulled one back after the restart - #15 getting a pocket of space inside the six-yard box before sending Ollie Green the wrong way.

Substitute Kyle Preece quickly restored the two goal cushion barely three minutes later, an acrobatic effort from a corner that found the far-corner smartly.

Town’s #12 then finished off proceedings with a wicked, long-range effort that left Green with no chance as it nestled into the far-corner to leave Green with no chance of keeping it out.
