CHORLEY FC were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Chorley to the football club on Thursday morning as part of a visit to oversee Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group's weekly meeting.

Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group was founded by Steve Downie in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength in being a support group that helps individuals with addiction.

Steve has been a Matchday Steward with the Magpies for a number of years now and was named the 'Steward of the Year' in 2022.

A word from Steve regarding the fabulous morning, "Collectively, we wanted to raise awareness for the individuals, in the Chorley area and beyond, informing them of our addiction recovery services, through our Community Partnerships.
Community connections are vital, in recovery and we are now leading the way, with the services that we offer, in the Lancashire area."

Guests included the Mayor of Chorley, Tommy Grey, Shaun Everitt - Project Coordinator at the NHS Community Roots LSCft College, Amy McDonald from Balance and Bliss Healing along with representatives from HMP Manchester, HMP Buckley, John Hill from Chorley Borough Council and Jeff Clarke, Chorley FC's Commercial Director.

Chorley FC Commercial Director, Jeff Clarke had this to add, "First of all I would like to say a huge congratulations to Steve on everything he has achieved with Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group.
As a football club we are proud to host Steve and his group on a weekly basis and fully recognise the importance of groups such as these to be in place to support those who need help with addiction."
