FOLLOWING our New Year’s Day postponement in midweek against Buxton, we now turn our focus back to the Isuzu FA Trophy against National League side Forest Green in the fourth round of the competition.
Chorley last faced the Green Army in 2013 in this same competition, and the Magpies won on penalties (3-1) after the match finished 0-0.
The Opponents
After back-to-back relegations, Forest Green currently sit second in the National League, only a point behind leaders York City.
The hosts are unbeaten in the league in their last 13 games, most recently registering a 2-1 win against Yeovil to bring in the New Year.
As for the threats in front of goal, Christian Doidge and Kyle McAllister both have eight goals apiece this season.
Forest Green also have a former Magpie among their ranks, Harry Cardwell, who had a fantastic tenure with Chorley before eventually departing for Southend United.
Kyle McAllister leads the team on the creative charts, with seven assists so far from the winger and seven goals.
The 25-year-old will undoubtedly be one to watch this weekend with his creative threat and his eye for goal.
The Manager
Steve Cotterill is the man in charge of the Green Army. Having taken charge in January of last year, Cotterill had a tough task on his hands, saving Forest Green from relegation.
However, this season has been a different story. With his experience in play-offs and promotions, Cotterill has put the Rovers in a strong position in the National League so far.
Before taking charge of Forrest Green, Cotterill has had plenty of other jobs in football management.
The 60-year-old has managed at Stoke City, Burnley, Notts County, Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City, Birmingham City, and Shrewsbury Town.
Cotterill was a striker in his playing days. He played for Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion, Wimbledon, Brighton, and Hove Albion before finally finishing his career at AFC Bournemouth.
A word from Preecy
“We couldn’t really have gotten a tougher draw than Forest Green away, and, so, we’ll have to be on it from minute one this weekend. Obviously, we’ve had time to rest and prepare because of the Buxton postponement and the Radcliffe abandonment so it’s given us time to refresh longer than we’d have expected, but, all in all, we’re excited for this one as ever.!
