CHORLEY continued their 2023/24 pre-season campaign with an impressive win over National League side Rochdale AFC at Victory Park on Saturday, writes Pete Tscherewik.

The Magpies didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock after putting some early pressure on the Rochdale defence; Justin Johnson fended off The Dale’s left-back then wrong-footed a second defender before slotting the ball home past Louie Moulden to claim his fifth goal of pre-season.

Louis Britton very nearly doubled Andy Preece’s sides’ advantage on 32 minutes but was denied brilliantly by Moulden before Britton almost turned provider, this time for Billy Whitehouse who looked in on goal only to be flagged offside.

Rochdale almost got themselves back on terms before the break through Kairo Mitchell but his header lacked the quality to beat Matt Urwin in goal.

Harry Scarborough looked to make his mark on the game into the second-half and found himself in on goal having stolen the ball only to be taken out by a defender on the way and minutes later, was flagged for an offside having put himself in a one-on-one against Moulden.

It was a good day for us – it’s always nice to win a game. We defended well and looked a threat going forward.” Andy Preece
