REPORT: Squires Gate 1-5 Chorley

THE Magpies made it back to wins from their first two 2024/25 pre-season friendlies with a 1-5 win away at Squires Gate on Tuesday evening.

Chorley hit the front early on, an excellent run from Sonny Reeves capped off with an effort that was well saved only to leave Tom Carr to tap-in the opener into an empty net.

Jack Hazlehurst caused problems for the Gate throughout the opening 45 minutes and was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet himself, hitting the post, before Jack Sampson prodded the ball in only to be flagged for offside.

Barely a minute later though, our skipper for the night had the ball in the back of the net and our goal cushion was extended to two - Sampson turning, reversing then slamming the ball into the far corner.

Right on half-time and Carr bagged his second of the night, again, right place, right time to bundle the ball in from a corner.

A handful of changes followed after the break, including Kyle Preece, who didn't take long to bag his second goal of pre-season, a smart header into the roof of the net

Gate grabbed a goal back just past the hour mark but it was to be no more than a consolation - Preece bagging his second with an excellently placed finish to end proceedings at 1-5 on the night in favour of the Magpies.
