FROM Emirates FA Cup to League action, Chorley travel to the North East to face South Shields this Saturday in the Vanarama National League North.

After our 3-0 victory away from home against Mossley last weekend, George Horbury and Warren Clarke will be full of confidence after helping the Magpies through to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Opponents

The Mariners sit 12th in the table so far, having lost to Chester at home and a 5-0 away defeat at Macclesfield in the FA Cup. Elliott Dickman's men will be looking to bounce back quickly.

Paul Blackett is the club's top goalscorer so far this season. The 26-year-old has three goals so far and will be looking to add to it this weekend.

Blackett is one of many contributing with goals this campaign. Three players, Will Jenkins, Kyle Crossley, and Aidan Rutledge, have two goals this season.

Apart from the recent defeats, South Shields had some strong results, with a 2-1 away win against Scarborough Athletic and a 1-0 home win against Buxton.

Dickman's men will have plenty of motivation to bounce back and show their true class this weekend, so the Magpies will have to be at their best to get a result.

The Manager

Elliot Dickman has been in charge of the Mariners since December 2023 as the interim Head Coach. After some good results, South Shields appointed the 45-year-old coach as Manager until 2026 in May.

Dickman has not had any experience as a first-team Head Coach. He gained his experiences at Sunderland and Newcastle as a Youth Manager.

Noticeably Dickman took charge of both Geordie teams Under 23s. At Sunderland, he would be in charge for 107 matches before joining the Magpies in 2021, where he would only be in charge for 31 games.

 A word from Preecy

"It promises to be a real tough test this Saturday away at South Shields. We've had a lot of travelling recently, some great results and some fantastic performances to go with it. We won at home against them last season but lost in the last kick of the game away, so, we'll be looking to get one back in that regard, this time around. It'll be very, very, tough."
