CHORLEY FC were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Chorley to the football club on Thursday morning as part of a visit to oversee Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group's weekly meeting.
Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group was founded by Steve Downie in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength in being a support group that helps individuals with addiction.
Steve has been a Matchday Steward with the Magpies for a number of years now and was named the 'Steward of the Year' in 2022.
The football club and Steve, who was joined by Commercial Director, Jeff Clarke, had the pleasure of welcoming the mayor, Gordon France and his wife, Councillor Margaret to their behavioural change group on Thursday morning.
Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group helps individuals gain control over their addictive behaviours, achieve recovery and lead meaningful and satisfying lives.
Following today's visit, Steve Downie said, "It was both an honour and a privilege, to welcome Gordon and Margaret to our group, at Chorley FC.
We work closely with Chorley Council and having the Major and Mayoress, as our guests, further demonstrates our commitment and theirs, in supporting our Lancashire communities, with recovery from addiction."

Jeff Clarke, speaking on behalf of the football club added, "I would like to say a huge congratulations to Steve on everything he has achieved with Breakthrough Recovery Chorley Group.
As a football club we are proud to host Steve and his group on a weekly basis and fully recognise the importance of groups such as these to be in place to support those who need help with addiction.
We are very proud of what Steve has, and will continue to do. It's a big well done to him and his team from everybody at Chorley Football Club."
It has been a busy few weeks for Steve, as he is also a finalist for the BBC Radio Lancashire Make a Difference Awards for 2024 with the winners announced, at the event, held at Blackpool Tower on September 21st.
Good luck, Steve!
