PREVIEW: Euxton Villa

Words: Ryan Jacobs.

With back-to-back games over two days and a chance to rotate our squad, we make the short trip to Euxton Villa on Saturday afternoon.

After a game on Friday evening against Wigan Athletic, it gives the opportunity for Andy Preece to use some of the younger members of the squad and give them a chance to impress against a very good opponent in Euxton Villa.

The hosts had a very good season in the North West Counties League, finishing the campaign in fourth place.

Matt Atherton, Euxton Villas manager, helped guide the team to the playoff semi-final.

They would fall short in an absolute thriller against Ashton Town FC in a 4-3 defeat.

The Opposition

Euxton Villa will look to make that step further in their North West Counties campaign this year. Having had one of their best seasons, Matt Atherton will ensure that Villa is sharp and ready to go.

Atherton’s side has had a good start to their pre-season, although they lost their first game to Longridge Town. They've since gone on to beat Burscough Richmond (4-2) and New Mills FC (2-1), so will be looking to make it three wins in their pre-season campaign come Saturday.

In addition, they also had heartbreak in the Edward Case Cup final, where they lost 2-1 to Bacup Borough FC.

A word from Preecy

"Part of the plan for this game is to give our younger lads an opportunity to impress and get more minutes in their legs. A good few of those who've come through our education programme with the BTEC have had a fantastic pre-season so far, they've had opportunities in the first team and it's no coincidence they're now beginning to develop further and kick on."
